Different ways to maintain and get the use out of your new Indoor Rug!
Care and Maintenance
We recommend taking the following preventive measures to ensure that you enjoy your new rug to the full extent for a long time.
Turn over your rug – Rugs that can be used on both sides should be turned over at least once a year. This extends its useful life.
Rotate your rug – It is best to rotate your rug to ensure even wear and the uniform appearance of the surface.
Vacuum cleaning – Dust and dirt particles can be removed effectively before they become embedded in the pile by thoroughly vacuuming the rug as necessary (caution: clean only with a flat nozzle, without the brush attachment as this can damage the weaving of the carpet).
Individual wool fibres or even wool curls may come loose during use. Please do not pull these out. Instead simply cut the projecting wool ends off directly at the surface of the rug with a pair of scissors.
Rug Placement
Where you place your rug will have an effect on the longevity and look of your rug over time. Exposure to direct sunlight over long periods can cause the colour of a rug to fade. When placing your furniture on top of a rug, lightly set it down and then move it slightly in the direction of the pile at least once a week.
Do not keep your rugs in damp or wet areas, as mould will appear on your rug.
How to remove stains
The best way to remove any stain is to treat it immediately. In the case of liquids, first place an absorbent unprinted paper cloth or even better a moist cotton cloth on the stain. Subsequently, dab the affected area with a moist undyed cotton cloth. Please do not rub with a circular motion while applying pressure.
In the case of coarse dirt such as soil first, let the dirt dry and then remove it with a vacuum cleaner. If the stain persists, we recommend that you contact a specialist carpet cleaners.
Care by Material
Wool -
Pilling/shedding is a natural characteristic of rugs that contain wool. Vacuum as necessary and rug rotation is recommended. Avoid pulling fibres from surface pile and trim excess fibres back to surface pile. Clean spills immediately by blotting (not rubbing) with a clean sponge or cloth.
Viscose –
Viscose never has the same appearance after it has come in contact with moisture/spills. Clean spills immediately by blotting (not rubbing) with a clean sponge or cloth, do not rub.
Cow Hide –
Cow Hide rugs are NOT recommended for high traffic and carpeted areas. These rugs will show immediate wear and tear with use. This wear and tear will result in bare patches on your rug. Cow Hide rugs vary in colour and have creases and scars. Lightly vacuum as necessary and rug rotation is recommended. Clean spills immediately by blotting (not rubbing) with a clean sponge or cloth.
Natural fibres –
Sisal, jute, hemp rugs will change over time especially when exposed to sunlight. Regular vacuuming is the best care you can do to keep the fresh appearance of your natural fibre. Visible and loose dirt should be vacuumed with a strong brush-suction vacuum. Do not use the beater bar on these rugs. Natural fibre never has the same appearance after it has come in contact with moisture/spills. Please contact a rug cleaning specialist for the best cleaning result.
